The birth of the University is a direct consequence of the combination of local realities and interests, given that the area of its location places it in one of the most important areas of the country, from a demographic, political and economic point of view; Which had never before had an institution of university higher education.
Initial situation
By 1970, in La Matanza, there were about 106 thousand young people between the ages of 18 and 24, of whom, about 8,500, failing to meet their aspirations to undertake university studies in their own Party, they resigned to continue higher studies or saw themselves Forced to take them away from home.
In 1980, the young people belonging to this age group amounted to about 152 thousand and the aspirants to access a university, reached 16,600.
Five years later, 15,000 were residents in higher education in other centers, while 2,685 students residing in La Matanza enrolled in the Common Basic Cycle (CBC) of the University of Buenos Aires.
The return of democracy, in 1983, was the turning point from which the situations and the facts began to materialize, which, in the end, would allow the realization of the idea of setting up a university in La Matanza.
The University offers an extensive career proposal, with different levels of training, covering multiple disciplinary areas. In this way, it is proposed to teach to think and to accompany the incessant cultural, scientific and technological progress of the country, as well as of the region and the local area in which it is inserted.
The academic proposal is made through the Academic Departments that group the different disciplines and areas of knowledge and research. In that sense, undergraduate and undergraduate degrees are taught from the Departments of Engineering and Technological Research, Humanities and Social Sciences, Economics, Law and Political Science and Health Sciences.
For graduates who want to train in different disciplines, in order to expand and deepen their training, the Postgraduate School offers doctorates, master's and specializations with study options according to the needs of each area.
On the other hand, the academic offer that is dictated from the School of Continuing Education is destined to degree careers and complementation cycles that articulate with previous studies. Also, training from technical-operational undergraduate careers that require a formal higher formal education.
In this way, the offer is a response to the social demand for higher levels of training in certain disciplinary areas and various fields of professional performance.
