The University Agostinho Neto (UAN) is heir to the University General Studies (EGU) of Angola and Mozambique, created by Portuguese colonial power, through Decree-Law No. 44,530 of August 21, 1962, which were to be inaugurated in Luanda, on 6 October 1963 by the then President of the Portuguese Republic, Rear Admiral Américo Thomaz.

UAN's mission is the integral formation of its students, the production, diffusion and transfer of scientific, technological and cultural knowledge, in favor of communities, according to the highest international standards, with a view to contributing to lifelong learning. economic, social, political and cultural value to the Society.

Its vision is to transform UAN into an international reference institution, recognized for the excellence of Teaching and Scientific Research, committed to human development, contributing to social cohesion, capable of attracting and creating strategic partnerships that put it up to 2025 out of the 100 best universities in Southern Africa.
