The University of Siegen is a young, modern institute of higher education located centrally in the area bordering the three German federal states of Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatine.
The overall goal of the University of Siegen is to contribute to a humane future and to take responsibility for people and society. This is reflected in the guiding principle of the University of Siegen: creating a common future.
It is in the self-concept of the University of Siegen to link regional responsibility for education, training and societal issues with the internationally customary claims on teaching, study, research and transfer of knowledge, and to pursue their evolution as a permanent task.
HISTORY
With the foundation of "Pädagogische Hochschule Siegerland" (Educational University Siegerland) in 1964, Siegen’s academic heritage saw a revival. In 1972, the merger of the technical college and educational university paved the way for the establishment of University of Siegen (in the form of a comprehensive university). The new university started by offering a total of nine university programmes.
