Before the Vietnam's independence on September 2, 1945 the University of Transport and Communications has its predecessor, the College of Public Works. The university was reopened under the Democratic Republic of Vietnam on Nov. 15, 1945. November 15th is the annual tradition of the university.

On March 24, 1962, Prime Minister Pham Van Dong signed the Decision No. 42 / CP establishing the University of Transport and Communications. March 24 is the founding date of the university.

University of Transport and Communications (UTC or UCT) is a public university in the fields of engineering, transportation and economics.
