With the aim of training qualified professionals to meet the requirements of the country's development and also have a profile consistent with the political, economic and social circumstances that the model of economic development in the 70's, on August 9 of 1971, the Technological Institute Equinoccial UTE was created, by resolution legally recognized by the President, Dr. José María Velasco Ibarra; within its non-traditional academic offer, it included intermediate technical and technological careers.

In the year of 1980, the Equinoctial Technological Institute created the extension of Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas to meet the demands of technical training in this important sector.

As a consequence of the issuance of the Law of Universities and Polytechnic Schools of May 14, 1982, through which the existence and functioning of the Universities and Polytechnic Schools is regulated and regulated, in 1986 the Equinoctial Technological University was created.

On May 31, 1999, the extension of the Equinoctial Technological University in the Santa Elena Peninsula was instituted, thus offering the possibility of obtaining a higher level qualification for the young people of this Province.

From its beginnings, the UTE covers the training needs of professionals with a higher level scientific and technological education based on a socio-humanistic instruction.

We currently have 6 Faculties of: Architecture and Urbanism, Engineering Sciences and Industries, Hospitality and Services, Administrative Sciences, Communication, Arts and Humanities and Health Sciences "Eugenio Espejo", offering more than 25 undergraduate courses.

During this time, UTE University has become a benchmark in Ecuador, steadily walking the path of scientific research and innovation, always committed to the educational quality of the country, with the continuous training of its teachers and the accreditation of their academic programs.

Its students, research professors, administrative and service workers give life to the UTE.

The recognized quality of its studies, the development of important lines of research, its historical and modern architecture, its international relations and its complete adaptation to the demands of the current labor market place it at the forefront of the best universities.

With the new UTE, it transcends where nobody has arrived.
