The unified goal is the creation of a transport association with an integrated local transport offer by road and rail in the Central Saxony region. This clearly outlines the task of the VMS :

Overview of objectives and tasks

• Realization of an integrated public transport system by road and rail
• Securing cooperation and coordination of the responsible authorities in the planning, organization and design of the cross-district public transport in the network area
• Performing of sovereign tasks according to the law on local public transport in the Free State of Saxony ( ÖPNVG ) in the currently valid version by the ZVMS
• Development and updating of a local transport plan for the network area on the basis of the local transport plans drawn up by the responsible authorities
• The ZVMS assumes responsibility for the local rail passenger transport ( SPNV ) in the network area
• Further development of the uniform network tariff for trips by bus and train
• Distribution of the income from the sale of tickets to the eligible transport companies  
• Responsible body for the transport of schoolchildren in the districts of Central Saxony, Zwickau and Erzgebirgskreis through the ZVMS
• Implementation and expansion of the Chemnitz model by connecting the surrounding area to the Chemnitz tram network without having to change trains
