History
In 1992, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment was established. Environment Agency was an subsidiary body under the Ministry and the first specialized agency of environmental functions to assist the Minister of Science, Technology and Environment unified management of environmental protection activities throughout the country.
In late 1993, the National Assembly of Socialist Republic of Vietnam passed the Law on Environmental Protection - the basis for the legal system of environmental laws of our country.
May 26, 1998, the Politburo, the Central Committee of Vietnamese Communist Party issued Directive No. 36-CT/TW on strengthening of environmental protection during the industrialization - modernization of the country. This is the first time the Party issued a document directing the issues related to environmental protection work of the country.
August 2002, the National Assembly adopted a Resolution on the establishment of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to further strengthen the system of state management on environmental protection. The establishment of Natural Resources and Environment Ministry has formed three functional units of state management of the environment is the Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Environment and Department for Evaluation and Assessment of Environmental Impact.
November 15, 2004, the Politburo, the Central Committee of Vietnamese Communist Party issued Resolution No. 41-NQ/TW on environmental protection during the period of accelerated industrialization - modernization of the country.
In 2005, the National Assembly had considered and approved the amendment and supplement of the Law on Environmental Protection. The tasks of state management on environmental protection has the change both the quality and quantity in compliance with the provisions of the Law.
September 30, 2008, the Vietnam Environment Administration was established according to the Decision No. 132/2008/QĐ-TTg of the Prime Minister. This was an important step in the process of planning agencies for environmental management of the State, and marked the growth and development of environment sector in of the country.
