How we help

Walmart Mexico Foundation is committed to finding solutions that contribute to our mission to improve nutrition and sustainable development of marginalized communities through projects that increase income and food availability through their own work.

We focus our social actions in four main areas: food security, community development, volunteering and support to victims of natural disasters.

Food security support to increase food availability:

Daily our stores donate to food banks to support feeding those most in need. Some are delivered over 1,200 tons of food monthly.
We support building resources orchards and farms, which allows families to grow their own food and sell the surplus.
With 'Your Help' campaign, which launched in 2011 with great success thanks to our partners and customers, we bring 13 million pesos and 303 tons of food to 43 food banks.

Develop poor communities by supporting the marketing of goods produced by marginalized and indigenous communities:

Grant funding to boost production processes of various community and indigenous groups living in isolated regions.
We support farmers with technical advice, distribution and sale of their products in our stores. Since the inception of this program in 2005, it has sold more than 7 million pesos worth in 100 communities. A peculiarity of the project is to refund the total sales amount, including 100% of the profits generated. Currently we have expanded our product portfolio to include amaranth, coffee, honey, jamaica, cheeses, jams, bags, blankets and baskets of the states of Chihuahua, Guanajuato, Guerrero, Oaxaca and Yucatan adding 60 products and benefiting more than 2,000 producers.

Participate in volunteer activities

Conducting volunteer days throughout the region associated with the participation of volunteers who devoted their time to carry out activities such as painting schools, maintenance of medians, parks maintenance, maintenance of non-governmental institutions, beach cleaning , among others. In 2010 more than 86,900 volunteers participated in Mexico and Central America.

We provide support to victims of natural disasters

Mexico Walmart Foundation signed an agreement in 2006 with the Mexican Red Cross to create a revolving fund for 5,000 families with basic pantry staples and are distributed as soon as possible to those communities affected by natural disasters. Through the Disaster Support Program, and with the participation of customers and partners, we provide immediate assistance to victims of various disasters occurring both in the region and abroad. Last year, the program raised nearly 6 million pesos.
