WestSide Baby is a nonprofit organization that collects new and used items for children and babies and distributes them free of charge to King County families in need. They work with local social service agencies assisting low-income families. Agencies request items from them and deliver them to families who are homeless, living in transitional housing, in need of a little help during a difficult transition. They work every day with the hope that all babies and young children in their community have their physical needs met – diapers, food, clothing, appropriate toys, books, and safety equipment for their care.
They are the only social service agency in West King county area that collects, inspects and distributes free diapers, clothing, cribs and safety gear for babies and children. More than 114 local social service agencies, including shelters and food banks, rely upon us to provide critical necessities for low-income families.
Donna Pierce started WestSide Baby in 2001 because, she says, She was one stressed-out, freaked-out new mom, even though she didn’t have to worry about having enough money to feed, clothe, and diaper her babies. She couldn’t stand imagining the level of stress felt by new moms with low incomes, no incomes, no healthcare, no home. WestSide Baby had to be born.
Since opening in 2001, they have distributed over $19.5 million in clothing, diapers, safety equipment and other items to nearly 279,000 children.
In 2017, they served 46,000 children!
