Tifa Foundation is an organization that promotes the realization of an open society through collaboration on strategic issues with various civil society organizations in Indonesia, both at the national and local levels. Tifa Foundation was founded on December 8, 2000 by thirteen civil society leaders namely Hadi Soesastro, Felia Salim, Daniel Dhakidae, Todung Mulya Lubis, Goenawan Mohammad, Bambang Widjodjanto, Tosca Santoso, Riefqi Muna, Debra Yatim, Lukas Luwarso, Budi Santoso, Chusnul Mariyah , and Smita Notosusanto.

Since its establishment, Tifa has continued to encourage the strengthening of the role of civil society in protecting the rights of minority and marginalized groups, expanding the right to express and express opinions, advocating for the realization of a free media, improving governance as well as transparency and accountability in the formulation and implementation of public policies. , as well as a number of other programs that are in line with efforts to create an open society in Indonesia.

Thanks to its work, Tifa Foundation has now become one of the actors in an effort to encourage the creation of an open society, including improving the quality of democracy and the fulfillment of human rights (HAM) in Indonesia.

TIFA PHILOSOPHERS

The name of this organization is taken from the name Tifa, a percussion instrument similar to a drum that is used by indigenous peoples in eastern Indonesia to call local residents to participate in meetings and/or other traditional events. This musical instrument is also used by indigenous peoples to spread messages of peace and harmony.
