The ZSI is a private non-profit institute for applied social sciences based in Vienna (Austria).
ZSI conducts research and application projects, examines the social embeddedness and impact of innovation, and contributes to the design and dissemination of socially responsible and sustainable innovations to tackle global challenges.
The Center for Social Innovation (ZSI) is a scientific institute. It was registered as an association in 1988 and has been operational since 1990. On July 1, 2014, the transformation into a non-profit GmbH took place . It is designed to promote social development and is recognized by the Austrian tax authority as a charitable organization. The ZSI-Verein was obtained and is the owner of the non-profit ZSI GmbH.
The ZSI follows the model of a self-managed research institution: The management team of ZSI GmbH is elected by the General Assembly of the ZSI-Verein with a term of 3 years.
-The ZSI examines the social embeddedness and impact of innovation and contributes to the design and dissemination of socially acceptable and sustainable innovations to address societal challenges.
-Through the innovative use of research, education, consulting and coordination of networks, it creates new knowledge, reflect and configure existing knowledge, evaluate measures, develop concepts and promote their implementation.
-As an independent and globally active scientific institution, it is involved in theory development, method development, the development of instruments and measures and in conveying a systemically understood, broad innovation approach.
-It applies its methods and knowledge in numerous topics and have expertise in many regions of the world .
