Alemayehu is a seasoned professional and leader with over 27 years of bottom-up and hands-on experience in Public Health, Nutrition, Environmental Health, HIV/AIDS programming and general development practices. As a Chief of Party, he is currently leading a large USAID funded, integrated nutrition and WASH program in Rwanda. Previously, Alemayehu had held various senior management and technical positions including chief of party, program manager, deputy chief of party (DCOP), and regional technical Advisor (RTA) for Central Africa with numerous international NGOs including ActionAid, Concern worldwide, Save the Children US, Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), Catholic Relief Services (CRS) , and John Snow Inc. working in different countries across Africa including Ethiopia, Burundi, Rwanda, Nigeria, DRC, Cameroon, CAR and Chad. Alemayehu holds a PhD in Health Studies from University of South Africa; Master of Public Health (MPH) from University of Gondar; and bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Anthropology from Addis Ababa University (AAU). His abilities to work independently and in multicultural contexts, professional motivation and adaptive behavior have earned him progressively higher recognitions and positions in each of the organizations he worked for. Critical skills and knowledge on strategic leadership, program management, program development, strategic planning, capacity building, community mobilization, research and documentation, Social and Behavior Change (SBC), Monitoring & Evaluation are among his areas of expertise. Alemayehu has a very friendly personality, commendable communications and diplomatic skills with excellent proficiency in English and French languages.
