Annet Mulema

Summary

Annet Abenakyo Mulema is a sociologist, currently working for the International Livestock Research Institute as a Social Scientist-Gender, based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Her work focuses on gender research and integration in agricultural programs related to livestock value chains and sustainable intensification of farming systems. She has expertise in gender analysis, value chains, innovation platforms, food systems, food security and climate change. Before Joining ILRI, Dr. Mulema worked for the Africa Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF) in Harare-Zimbabwe as a knowledge and Learning Officer and coordinated development of the institution's annual flagship on Regionalism and Economic Integration in Africa. Before joining ACBF, she worked for Practical Action in Nairobi-Kenya as a consultant, where she coordinated a study that assessed the impact of climate change and environmental degradation on food, water and energy in the region of eastern and southern Africa with special emphasis on women and children. Between 2012 and 2014, she worked on an International Multidisciplinary Reserach Program - Dry Grain Pulse Collaborative Research Support Program- implemented in conjunction with the Center for sustainable Rural Livelihoods (CSRL) at Iowa State University, Makerere University and the National Agricultural Research Organization in Uganda. Before then, she had worked for the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) in Uganda on two important programs - Enabling Rural Innovation (ERI) and the Multi-country sub-Saharan Africa Challenge Program (SSA-CP). Her career includes over eight years of experience during which she has conducted research in Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda and U.S.A in various fields including gender, women's economic empowerment, value chain analysis, climate change, food security, and agricultural innovation platforms.
