Over the past 35 years, I have had a variety of occupations, including practical farming, voluntary work, government administration, education – including classroom teaching, self-employed rural business consultancy, rural project work, managing an environmental assurance scheme and training farmers in the UK, Europe and sub-Saharan Africa. My latter expertise has been mainly in rural development, agriculture, environmental protection and management. I have worked with Waitrose and DFID and on their Food Retail Challenge Fund (FRICH) project in sub-Saharan Africa. My Monitoring and Evaluation expertise has been mentored using the International Social and Environmental Accreditation and Labelling (ISEAL) sustainability codes. ISEAL set best practice guidelines that underpin effective practices for sustainability standards and other systems, supporting those systems to achieve more positive social, environmental and economic impacts, while decreasing negative (unintended) impacts.
