Anthony Waruru is a Kenyan seasoned public health leader and epidemiologist with over 20 years of experience in surveillance, HIV programming, and data-driven decision-making in East and Southern Africa. He holds a Ph.D. in Epidemiology from the University of Bergen and currently serves as a Strategic Information Adviser with UNAIDS, offering technical leadership to regional HIV programs. Previously, he was a Surveillance Epidemiologist at CDC Kenya, where he spearheaded groundbreaking work in HIV-associated mortality surveillance, case-based surveillance, and COVID-19 modeling. Anthony brings a proven track record in designing and managing large-scale epidemiological studies, stakeholder engagement, capacity building, and policy advocacy. His collaborative approach has supported government and donor-funded programs, including USAID, WHO, and the Global Fund. He has authored or co-authored over 30 peer-reviewed scientific publications and regularly contributes to strategic reports and guideline development. With recognized excellence in scientific dissemination, data systems innovation, and team leadership, Anthony is passionate about using evidence to drive equitable health outcomes across the region.
