I have a Master's Degree in City Planning and Economic Development from MIT (1980) and have worked with Local, Regional, State, and the US Governments in developing and implementing economic development strategies for rural America. More recently through our newly formed not-for-profit Community Matters Institute (2018), I have been working in the UAE, Honduras, Albania, and Timor-Leste on Special Economic Zones that are more diverse in terms of land uses and economic activity. We are currently developing an initiatve called 'Coaching from the Sidelines' allowing communities of all sizes and nation states to learn from our experiences in zone development.
