Bob Fagen

Bob Fagen is based in Costa Rica and most recently worked as a Regional Advisor focusing on the Caribbean for USAID’s Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance (BHA). Since 2004, he has lived and worked in Afghanistan, Haiti, Indonesia, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Liberia, Guinea, Nigeria, Madagascar, Central African Republic, Niger, Colombia, Cameroon, Chad, Peru, Ecuador, Brazil, Costa Rica, and the Caribbean. Bob has managed humanitarian and development programs related to livelihoods, infrastructure, shelter, health, food assistance, agriculture, fisheries, disaster risk reduction, resilience, capacity building, water and sanitation, protection, nutrition, and education. Bob has helped lead several major humanitarian responses including the Haiti Earthquake in 2010, West Africa Ebola in 2014-2016, and the ongoing Venezuelan Regional Crisis. He has also directed several storm responses in the Caribbean, starting with Hurricane Gustav in 2008 and continuing through Hurricane Beryl and other tropical cyclones in 2024. Bob joined USAID/BHA in 2015, and has been posted at US Embassies in Guinea, Niger, and Costa Rica. Prior to joining USAID/BHA, Bob worked abroad for a variety of NGOs and contractors including the International Rescue Committee (IRC), Global Communities, AECOM, Chemonics, and Save the Children. Bob has a J.D. from American University (DC), a B.A. from Marquette University (WI), and studied in Madrid and Paris. Bob was born in St. Louis, Missouri, and is fluent in English, Spanish, and French.
