Damien Gregory

Over the course of 17 years, my expertise in education and project and technical leadership has contributed significantly to achieving high impact for poor and vulnerable children in Ghana, Rwanda and Eritrea through projects funded by USAID, FCDO, UNICEF and foundations. Currently deployed as the Technical Director for the $50m USAID-funded Strengthening Accountability in Ghana’s Education System (SAGES) System Strengthening Activity I have overseen the development and adaption of sustainable system-strengthening accountability models for improving learning outcomes, in collaboration with government officials and local partners, with initial fruitful results in northern Ghana. In organisational lead, technical and inclusive education positions in the £60m pound FCDO-funded national scale Building Learning Foundations programme my innovative and rigorous approaches to achieving implementation quality contributed to high-level literacy and numeracy learning outcome gains across Rwanda, whilst implementation of, and influence on government teacher development, school leadership and inclusion policies set the scene for sustainable impact. In my work I try to see the bigger picture, based on an understanding of country and global contexts, brokering partnerships and alliances and coordination for systemic sustainable change, combined with an eye for detail, a mind for procedures, and team leadership which is bold, collegiate and supportive. My experience in sub-Saharan Africa builds on my achievements as an inclusive and effective teacher, team leader, and trainer in primary schools for 13 years in the UK.
