Daniel Roy Torunczyk Schein, Ph.D., is an expert policy analyst in Latin America. He is currently an independent consultant in environmental governance and associate researcher at the Brown International Advanced Research Institute (BIARI) at Brown University.
He has 10 years of experience as a researcher, analyst, writer, lecturer on socio-political issues, environmental governance and sustainability issues in Latin America. He has an in-depth understanding in analyzing actors’ goals and motivations with project management skills, important fieldwork know-how and teamwork capabilities. He has demonstrated the ability to communicate fluently and effectively in English, French and Spanish, and good command of Portuguese.
He has published several peer-reviewed articles (The Extractive Industries and Society, European Review of Latin American and Caribbean Studies, Canadian Journal of Latin American and Caribbean Studies); book chapters (Université de Montréal and Universidad del Externado de Colombia); book reviews (Utopía y Praxis Latinoamericana, Latin American Politics and Society, Mobilization), and articles in public forums (Open Democracy, Policy Options and Toronto Star) in English, French and Spanish. His book Transnational Mining, Sovereignty and Subnational Power in Latin America will come out this year with Palgrave Macmillan
He holds a PhD in Sociology (2015) from the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) focusing in environmental governance of resource extraction and climate justice in Latin America; a Master in international studies from Torcuato Di Tella University, and a BA in political science from the Universidad de Buenos Aires.
