I have over 20 years of experience working at both a senior management and technical level in a variety of multi-disciplinary programs many of which have focused on market systems development and private sector development, improving livelihoods, post emergency livelihoods rehabilitation and household resilience. In addition, I have had the opportunity to work in horticultural exports, commercial farm management and food aid commodity management. Results-based management in concert with careful and team-oriented strategic planning efforts have been critical factors in developing and implementing the effective interventions I have managed. In addition, I have worked with a wide range of development agencies and I have been exposed to a variety of programming methods and management styles. This has included value chain analysis and more recently the Market System Development approach. In addition, working with M&E technical staff, I have been involved in the development, review and amendment of various elements of Performance Management Plans. Further, I also have practical experience working with the Donor Committee for Enterprise Development standard for results management. I see learning and sharing as a key feature of my role and have organized a number of learning events for both internal and external stakeholders. This included co-curating a two-day seminar in Kampala in October 2019 examining the role of Market Systems in food security and an introduction to the DCED Standard for results measurement. Working for a science-based organization, I periodically assist in the development of research projects. These have covered a variety of areas including plant disease surveys, cost benefit analysis for irrigation systems and agricultural input quality assessments. During 2020, I led research activities with Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands private sector partners to identify challenges created by COVID19 as well as sharing best practices and potential solutions.
