The term Nanotechnology was first used by the late Professor Norio Taniguchi of the Tokyo Science University in a paper, “On the Basic Concept of Nanotechnology'”, presented at a meeting of the Japan Society of Precision Engineering in 1974. But the first scientist to suggest atoms could be moved to precise locations, was Richard Feynman at his famous 1959 talk at Caltech to the American Physical Society. In his 1986 book Engines of Creation, K. Eric Drexler, founder of the Foresight Institute, described his vision of Nanotechnology as a future era where Microscopic Self-Replicating Assemblers (MSRA), would precisely build anything, transforming the world with precision and no pollution.
