Summary

Provided leadership for the development of the Media Institute of Southern Africa’s regional strategy and the subsequent establishment of the new five (5) -year strategy that responds to the state of media, digital rights and expression in the Southern African region. Developed and operationalised the consolidated national media and communications framework for collaboration of broader civil Society organisations (csos) around media policy and expression Development in Zimbabwe involving over 15 different organisations under the auspices of the Media Alliance in Zimbabwe (MAZ). Turned MISA into an outward looking leadership institution, sitting in regional and international boards for institutions such as the Southern African Internet Governance Forum (SAIGF), IFEX, a global network of more than 100 institutions defending expression and the Global Forum for Media Development (GFMD), an international network of more than 200 organisations defending media and journalism at global scale. Moderated the 30th Anniversary of the Windhoek Declaration on Independent and diverse media in Namibia on the 3rd of May 2021 leading to the review of the declaration to Windhoek Declaration +30 which factors developments in new technologies and environment 30 years on. Appointed Regional Director for the MISA Regional Secretariat, doubling as the Country Director for MISA Zimbabwe in recognition of competitive leadership among the nine MISA Chapters Pioneered the Regional Internet Governance Forum in Southern Africa , which is now an annual event bringing more than a 100 delegates from across the region to deliberate on the democratic governance of the internet and push back restrictive legislation on regional scale. Identified by the British Government as one of the 16 Young Media Leaders in Africa for a two-month knowledge exchange under the Chevening Scholarship for 2021. An alumnus and founding member of the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) ‘s International Training Programme on Democratic Regulation of the Media. An alumnus of the Africa Internet Governance School for the year 2021. Appointed advisor to the office of the African Commission on Human and People’s Rights (ACPHR) Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Expression and Access to Information. Part of the eight-member committee that worked with Commissioner Mute in revising the Principled of the Declaration on Freedom of Expression and Access to Information, which now provides for the internet as a human right. Guest speaker on local, regional, and international fora addressing wide ranging issues from freedom of expression, media freedom, digital rights, and leadership among others.
