PROFESSIONAL PROFILE Dr. Mosala, a South Africa who has a Doctorate in philosophy of Science (University of Natal) with a specialization in epidemiology, research and public health, disease control, management, and Surveillance. Dr. Mosala carries 30 years of university teaching, clinical and epidemiological research on extended subjects covering a broad range as documented by my publication list. Currently, as Public Health Specialist, Dr. Mosala completed an evaluation of the disease surveillance system in South Africa which revealed many challenged such as lack of capacity at lower levels to identify early signs of outbreak due to lack of training, poor data quality, data incompleteness and lack of capacity to analyze and sharing information. Dr Thabang diligently reorganized the national integrated web-based disease surveillance system by improving the reporting for on-time Response, rate of the health institutions, the quality of data through the development data verification and data validation processes and promoted data use through a timely data analysis and dissemination of results through quarterly performance reports which were presented verbally to Management and sent to the units collecting data for program improvement. She advocated for policy change and support for the integration of the disease surveillance system in South Africa and strengthened it capacity to detect outbreaks at an early stage. Through her work, she has contributed to the understanding of the HIV epidemic in the country and advocated for policy change to introduce the ART program for pregnant women first then for all PLHIV. Dr Mosala produced the baseline National HIV Prevalence for the PMTCT programme, where the Mother to child positivity rate reduced from 29.5% in 2009 to 3.5% in 2013.
