Summary

Edward Oladele, a specialist community/public health physician is a fellow of the Nigeria National Postgraduate Medical College (Faculty of Public Health) and member of the West African College of Physicians. He studied International Public Health at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and has a second Master’s degree in Project Development and Implementation from the University of Ibadan. He is currently writing his PhD thesis in Public Health focusing on integrated development. Edward has a wide experience working with multiple stakeholders to strengthen health systems across different settings in sub-Saharan Africa. He has provided technical leadership on large scale development projects and is skilled in program management, as well as strengthening health care delivery through health facilities and the community. He has had direct hands-on experience working with private and public health facilities from the primary to tertiary levels in Nigeria. Edward led pioneering work to expand HIV/AIDS services to an unprecedented number of primary health care centres in the country. While working within health facilities, Edward managed drug revolving funds to assure availability of medicines. At the national level, he has contributed to national forecasting and quantification of medicines. His work has focused on gender-integrated maternal and child health, HIV/AIDS, malaria, and reproductive health including the design, development, implementation and monitoring of program strategies, concepts, policies and projects. His interests lie mainly in strengthening systems, driving quality improvement, operational research to inform delivery of quality programs, and translation of research knowledge into practice. His assignments have seen him work in communities in Botswana, Cameroon, Eswatini, Kenya, Liberia, Nigeria, South Sudan, Tanzania, United Kingdom, Zambia and Zimbabwe. His donor experience includes USAID, The Global Fund, CDC, World Bank, UNFPA, and the private sector – General Electric, Novo Nordisk. Dr Oladele is proficient in research with special interests in using LQAS survey methodology for program monitoring and management. He has significant experience in developing, planning, and facilitating training and capacity building programs in both academic and program implementation settings. He has published 25 peer reviewed journal articles, co-authored a book and a guide, multiple conference abstracts and has contributed to the development of national guidelines and training manuals as well as numerous reports. Edward has worked very closely with stakeholders to shape health related policies in Nigeria. He has been part of pilots and published analyses that either stimulated policy action or formed the basis of policy statements. He teaches health policy to graduate students at the University of Ibadan. Edward has delivered keynote addresses at AGMs, Conference Opening Events and to varied types of associations. He has addressed audiences in Botswana, Cameroon, Eswatini, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, United States, United Kingdom, and Zambia. Edward, a British Chevening Scholar and a David Barry awardee, is an ardent believer in teams, teamwork and team achievement. An apostle of supportive supervision, he is committed to seeing health systems deliver quality and effective care leading to improved health outcomes especially in resource-limited settings. He is also devoted to developing/applying cost-effective innovative solutions including technology solutions to prevailing healthcare delivery challenges.
