Erik is a board certified doctor who specializes in global health, remote and austere medicine and public health. Erik is the Chief Medical Officer of AB Med which is a private medical group that specializes in providing medical solutions, management and staffing to hospitals and clinics, worldwide. He is a true rural and remote generalist.
He has completed his Family Medicine training in the USA, a fellowship in Rural and Remote Medicine and Advanced Specialist Training in Emergency Medicine in Australia. He earned his MPH degree with global health focus at Tulane, along with a diploma in clinical tropical medicine and travel health.
Prior to becoming a doctor, Erik was a professional outdoor multi-sport athlete and a firefighter. He has provided medical care on six continents and is licensed to practice in multiple countries.
His areas of professional interest include travel and tropical medicine, global health, wilderness medicine, emergency medicine, family medicine, aeromedical evacuation, pre-hospital care, rural/remote medicine and repatriation.
Dr. McLaughlin has written numerous articles for magazines and appeared as a guest on many television and radio shows speaking on global health and expedition medicine. He has also published original research on remote medicine.
When he is not working he enjoys trail running, kayaking, climbing, cycling and swimming. He is married and a proud father of twins.
