I started my career in Mexico City and my first research passion was the biochemical characterization of the mitochondrial ATPase subunits, it was there that I learned to love and obsess about experiments. In Columbia University and later finishing my PhD in Mexico I came to appreciate that writing and communicating results of the experiments are equally important to performing them. After getting my PhD, I have worked in the University of Miami, Florida International University and CU Boulder on topics ranging from protein-protein interactions, protein purification and enzymatic analysis to immunological evasion and microbiome analysis of the COPD lung. Bacterial pathogenesis and the impact of infectious diseases have been a common thread during my career. I have had the opportunity to work in very diverse research groups and have been able to apply the different ways of thinking of each lab to enrich my current research. During my work in these different groups, I have been able to make close connections with both peers and senior members; I value teamwork and also enjoy mentoring younger colleagues.
