Ewen McLean

Dr. McLean obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Bradford, Department Biomedical Sciences, UK. Following postdoctoral support from NSERC-DFO (Canada), AmGen Inc. and Monsanto Inc., he worked on an ADB funded program in Indonesia, developing curricula, undertaking research and providing graduate training in Marine Sciences. He joined the University of Aalborg, Denmark, as Senior Lecturer and Section Head of Aquaculture Biotechnology and was hired as Head of Department, Marine Science and Fisheries, at Sultan Qaboos University, Oman. He was appointed Professor of Fisheries at Virginia Tech., Program Professor in Marine and Environmental Sciences by the University of Trinidad and Tobago and Chair of Biology at Claflin University, South Carolina. Since 2016 he has worked as a consultant, serving government and non-government organizations, private enterprise and international development agencies. He has mentored or actively served on the committees of 48 graduate students. He has authored and co-authored over 200 academic and technical papers and has developed a variety of novel technologies in support of fisheries and aquaculture development. He has worked in higher education and as a consultant for over 25 years. He has founded or part-founded three enterprises and has been engaged as member of various advisory boards for industry and non-governmental organizations. He has worked in Africa, East and SE Asia, Europe, North America and the Caribbean.
