Summary

George Makore is a development consultant with over 25 years of experience in the trade, investment, policy, standards, marketing, communication, standards certification, training, and public relations, including over 15 years of senior management experience, mainly in Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) region. Mr. Makore has expertise in developing and implementing technical assistance and capacity-building programs focusing on market-based solutions to inclusive development and growth, mainly from working on multi-year USAID funded economic growth projects aimed at enhancing the SADC region's global competitiveness. In addition to vast experience in designing, planning, and implementing cross-country programs and projects, and in managing people and processes, Mr. Makore has successfully facilitated the development of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) Utilization Strategies for Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, and Zambia and facilitated implementation of AGOA activities across the SADC region to increase trade and investment between the countries and the United States. As the Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP) of a six-year USAID funded region growth project (October 2016-September 2022), Mr. Makore led the project to successfully facilitate over $253 million in African intra-regional trade and exports to the United States, including through the AGOA preference program, $212 million in private-sector investment of which $25 million was in agriculture-related finance, and formed over 70 public-private partnerships, while helping to create over 3,700 new jobs across the region. Following the end of the USAID funded regional economic growth project (Southern Africa Trade and Investment Hub), Mr. Makore was Start-up Trade Market Systems Advisor for the new four-year (October 2022-September 2026) USAID Africa Trade and Investment (ATI) program before becoming the program's Acting Regional Director for Southern Africa He is currently the Senior Trade Advisor/Activity Manager for the program covering Rwanda/Tanzania/Uganda. Mr. Makore is a trained market systems development practitioner. A highly motivated and results-oriented individual with excellent communications skills and a proven ability to successfully establish and manage projects, Mr. Makore has a unique skill set consisting of project management ; development and implementation of strategies ; standards and technical regulations; business management systems training, auditing and certification ; developing and implementing investment and trade programs ; as well as experience in drafting, editing, and formatting of project documents. The above skills are supported by his wide range of qualifications, including an MSc. in International Business Law (LLM) from the University of Cumbria in the United Kingdom (UK), an MSc. in Project Management from the University of Salford Manchester, Business School (UK), Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Corporate Strategy from Nottingham Trent University (UK), and Bachelor of Technology in Marketing degree Mr. Makore is an exceptional communicator with excellent written and verbal communications skills , and a proven track record in working collaboratively and effectively with a wide range of stakeholders - from the private sector and senior government officials to other international development partners. In addition to previously owning and operating a marketing and advertising business in Zimbabwe, Mr. Makore has also been a partner in a business management systems consultancy and Chairman and Board Member for three organizations.
