Summary

Currently the Executive Director of Africa Centre for Health Leadership, an-African focused NGO working on leadership, governance and health systems strengthening for universal health coverage with special interest in improving access to health services by underserved communities, key and vulnerable populations including women, young people and children. Formerly, the Chief of Party/Program Director of Save the Children USA’s Global Fund Program in Tanzania. He provided overall programmatic and financial leadership for the USD $13 million Global Fund Grant which supporting integrated HIV/TB program, RH-PMTCT, key populations and community health systems strengthening in Mainland Tanzania which was implemented in 14 regions. He is a public health specialist with 20 years experience in reproductive health-specifically maternal Health, family planning, HIV/AIDS program management, GBV programs and health systems strengthening. He has provided leadership in designing and facilitating the implementation of several health programs addressing maternal health, young people’s health, HIV/AIDS, gender, population and development in Nigeria. He was the Head - Reproductive Health/ HIV/AIDS in UNFPA for six years managing a budget of 45 million USD and Team Leader (HIV/AIDS and TB) for four years for the 32 million USD SRH/HIV/AIDS/TB programme (POLICY Project) funded by USAID and implemented by Futures Group International, USA. He also provided technical leadership to the 44M USD Africa Development Bank/UN- funded Lake Chad Basin HIV/AIDS Project implemented in Nigeria, Cameroon, Niger, CAR and Chad with headquarters in N’Djamena. Other projects he has managed or contributed to as a member of the Senior management team includes: the UNH4 program on maternal health, reproductive health commodity security, and AU-Initiated campaign on accelerated reduction of maternal mortality in Africa (CARMMA); UNFPA’s 5th and 6th Country Programs- RH/HIV/AIDS, Bamako Initiative primary health care project and reproductive health in humanitarian situation. Previously, he served the Government of Nigeria for more than 15 years in various capacities as Primary Health Coordinator and Health Administrator, Nurse and midwives Educator and a Lecturer in Public Health and Nursing. He holds a first degree in Health Studies, a Master’s degree in Applied Population Research from the University Of Exeter, UK; another Master’s degree in Public Health Nursing- Leadership from Emory University, Atlanta, US, and a Ph.D. in Development Studies with emphasis in Public Health Leadership and Management. He also completed in April, 2015, an Intensive Certificate Course on Humanitarian Response and Simulation at Harvard University, Boston. As evidence of his commitment to and leadership in public health, he has received a number of awards and acknowledgments some of which includes: Humphrey Fellowship in Public Health, Emory University, Atlanta, previously a British Chevening Scholar, UK and a Nina Carson Leadership Award, Emory University School of Nursing.
