A senior executive and consultant with over 27 years’ experience in international development policy and strategy. Subject experience includes designing organisation-wide and departmental strategies, economic advocacy policy and programmes in the global South, and systems strengthening and sector governance in water, sanitation and hygiene, development finance and political economy analysis. Accomplishments include designing high impact economic justice advocacy strategies, a founding member of Jubilee 2000 campaign and the global Sanitation and Water for All partnership and the development of sovereign ‘human development’ debt work-out schemes that were adopted by UK and RSA Treasuries, the AU and UN agencies. Career includes working with a range of bilateral and multilateral institutions, advisor to SA Treasury on NEPAD’s capital flows policy, participant in UN ECOSOC Financing for Development PrepComs and technical assistance work with governments in Sub-Saharan Africa, South and South-East Asia. Panellist at the World Bank, IMF and Bank of England on capital flows policy, basic services, and pro-poor economies. Last position held was as WaterAid’s global policy team director, managing a team of ten senior policy analysts and researchers and leading multi-country research and policy programs on systems-strengthening and sector governance. Currently working as an independent consultant and guest lecturer at LSHTM and the University of London.
