Experience span teaching, research and service as a professor, mentor, adviser, research manager, fundraiser from public and private entities, public speaker, and extensive international development engagements in the Caribbean, sub-Saharan Africa and South East Asia as researcher, scientific collaborator, invited speaker, consultant, thought leader and advisor. Business management experience as co-founder and CEO of a startup company in the biotech and health tech space in Africa. Has mentored over 60 undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral associates and research scholars from the US, Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia with academic output consisting of 1 book, 1 book chapter, 72 peer-reviewed articles and 102 abstracts and presentations and given over 60 invited talks in Africa, Asia, the Americas, and Oceania. Has received support from the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, US Department for Agriculture, US Agency for International Development, foreign governments and from private industry and foundations (including Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Pfizer Animal Health, now Zoetis, Inc.) with total career grant portfolio of $34 million. And has consulted in agriculture, education and international development to companies, governments, private foundations, and international agencies.
