Jan Oeking

I have a German legal background and for the past five years I worked in a boutique law firm in Germany. My education combined with my previous work experience as an attorney in the field of national and international civil law and my constant will to expand my legal knowledge will give you a great advantage. I will bring a new and unique perspective on many issues and challenges. Amongst my former clients were worldwide operating high profile companies of the steel manufacturing, construction and cooling/heating branch as well as nonprofit organizations. Working for these clients I dealt with a variety of issues in civil law settings, varying from European-wide public procurement processes to the impact of spin-off transactions on employment relations as well as discrepancies in commercial contracts. Furthermore I created and edited tailor-made international contracts for the sale of goods as well as contracts in the field of corporate law. The full responsibility for legal cases made me adapt a way of identifying and understanding risks quickly and transferring them into recommendations that feed the interests and concerns of my former clients. My experiences with litigations of national and international cases sharpened my abilities to estimate legal issues in short periods of time and to negotiate the best outcome for my client in and outside of court. Moving recently to Washington, DC, I had the opportunity to evaluate and reconsider my previous career and decided to move away from the traditional work of a law firm attorney. Considering that I enjoyed operating closely with my clients’ in-house legal departments in the past, due to the fact that the work involved a team of highly motivated and well educated professionals, I am looking forward to working more closely with a team of experts in the future.
