12 years of international work experience in the field of development, humanitarian assistance and peacebuilding.
With my experience in setting strategic directions, mobilizing financial resources to address complex situations in crisis and conflict settings, and and my skills in maintaining good relationships with donors, Government representatives, NGOs and communities I can contribute to your organizational goals and objectives.
My field experience includes over 10 years of management experience during which I was responsible for complex multi-stakeholder projects/ programmes and country operations in countries affected by violent conflict (Kyrgyzstan, Somalia, Kenya, Uganda, Afghanistan, India).
My key achievements during recent assignments:
Immediately following the 2nd revolution in April 2010 and the inter-ethnic violence in South Kyrgyzstan in June 2010 I started my assignment with UNDP and the UN Country Team as Peace and Development Advisor to lead on responses to the political instability, ethnic and regional tensions in Kyrgyzstan. I provide advice to Government counterparts and UN officials at the highest level towards defining urgent peacebuilding priorities and strategies. To be able to transform priorities and strategies into action I played a leading role in mobilizing around USD 35 Million for peacebuilding and conflict prevention interventions of the UN in Kyrgyzstan. I also worked as the team leader for the UNDP peace and development programme in Kyrgyzstan for 5 years.
As Country Director Somalia, Kenya and Uganda of the BBC World Service Trust I was responsible for media and communications for development projects engaging audiences around key development issues through behavioral change communications in areas such as peacebuilding, human rights, transitional justice, governance, livelihoods and health. During the three years of my employment I facilitated an organizational growth process and led the set-up of BBC WST offices, management and financial reporting systems in Hargeisa, Nairobi and Kampala. From the time I began my assignment with BBC WST to the time I left, the number of national and international full-time staff increased from 9 to 34. I selected, built and led a strong team that implemented an increasing number of projects. At BBC WST I oversaw & was directly involved in the development of 11 successful new projects & co-funding proposals with a total value of roughly USD 6 Million.
During my professional assignments I prepared numerous proposals, budgets, reports and presentations for many bilateral-, multilateral- and private/ cooperate donors. I have been involved in fundraising and external relations since the age of 21 (first for the student organization AIESEC, later during internships/voluntary work and throughout my professional career).
I hold a Master’s degree in Sociology from the University of Bielefeld (Germany) with a focus on Sociology of Development, Social Anthropology and Theory of Planning and Decision Making. Besides my excellent German and English language skills, I speak French fluently. Since the age of 21, I have been working with and leading culturally diverse teams and am able to adapt to different environments/ cultures.
