I am a self employed emergency department practitioner currently working as a locum in A&E (ER) departments around the UK, primarily Royal Lancaster Infirmary in England, Glan Clwyd Hospital in Wales and twice a year in Nobles Hospital Isle of Man to cover trauma teams for the motorcycle races. My role is directly equivalent to that of an A&E nurse, working in resus, majors and minors and involves all aspect of the patients care;- triage and assessment, investigations, cannulations and bloods, arterial gas sampling, male urinary catheters, ordering of x-rays and ECG's, wound care- closure and dressings, drug administration. I have a background as an anaesthetic practitioner, working with anaesthetists in patient care during the pre, peri and post operative phases. I have current Life Support and Pre Hospital Trauma Life Support certs. In addition I work as a remote medic covering wilderness sporting events and more recently on the frontline in Iraq on a Trauma Stabilisation Post.
