ICT Coordinator is mainly responsible for the smooth running of computer systems and ensuring users get maximum benefits from him. Dealing with ISPs such as Telekom Networks Malawi, Skyband Corporation, Wananchi Telecom Ltd, SimbaNET and Telecom4Good, a non-profit assisting NGOs on Bandwidth Aggregation Program and as Technology Point Person for Malawi Office. 4. Save the children – Malawi Country Office from 1st November 1995 to 30th September 2008 as Computer Systems Coordinator • Taking care of agency computers in Mangochi and Balaka Sub-Offices, making sure that they performed to expected SC standards and that they were protected from viruses, by having Anti-Virus Programs on every computer which updated daily including service packs and patches for all installed software. • Supporting computer users and monitoring the operations and performance of the technology infrastructure, making sure that latest development applied in a timely manner and that the Sub-Offices were connected to the Save the Children autonomous network in conformity with required standards. • Network Administration, Novell Netware, Windows NT4, Windows 2000 Server, Windows Server 2003/2008, Active Directory (AD) and Exchange Server 5.5/2003, MS Outlook, Web Outlook Access, DHCP Server, DNS Server and ASISt SQL Server. Cisco routers and switches management including VSAT (Very Small Aperture Transmission) comprising parabolic dish, block up/down converter (BUC) and iDirect satellite modem with separate C-Band up and down links. • Implementation and supporting of Wireless LAN (Broadband) for mobile computer users, such as Laptop users and visitors to access information from their locations of base while working in the Sub-Offices. • Supporting e-mail systems based on Dial up and VSAT connections including monitoring of Bandwidth from time to time, making sure that the Sub-Offices were operating at the subscribed rate to enable remote administrators (FORT and Home Office) to monitor the operations of servers, databases and facilitating uploads and downloads as a process of synchronizing information between Country and Home offices. • Dealing with Internet Service Providers in making sure that their services were always up and running. These ISPs are Skyband (Africa-online), MalawiNet, SDNP and MTL. • Supporting the operations of Automated Sponsorship Information System (ASISt), a database system, which Save the Children uses for trucking children and sponsors between Country and Home Offices. The process was being achieved by up-streams and down-streams, to and from Save the Children FTP site. ASISt database evolved to version 3.0 on Microsoft SQL Server Platform migrated from Clipper, Delphi and finally to SQL Server. • Training of users on new computer technology products’ operations from time to time. • Acquisition of hardware, software and accessories depending on products available in relation to Save the Children standards • Management of related electronically operated office equipment, including power supply stabilization with installation of standby Generator, office wide (networked) UPSs and voltage regulators • Installation of hardware and software, preventive maintenance and advice to users of computers and related electronically operated equipment such as photocopiers, digital cameras, overhead LCD projectors, scanners, PDAs, Satellite Phones and VOIP Phones on their proper operation and storage in order to make the most of them. • Taking daily server backups (nightly, differential and full backups) and restoration wherever necessary. • Technology point person in the Mangochi and Balaka Sub-Offices, implementation by rolling out deployments and migrations of technologies in sub-offices developed from home office. 5.
