I am a recent expat to The Hague (Netherlands) following a successful career in Manchester (UK) in the community/voluntary sector. Prior to my relocation I split my time as a Community Development Worker for a co-operative housing initiative and my own events social enterprise, Commonplace. Commonplace was a converted double-decker bus operating as a mobile community event space. We ran pop-up events across Greater Manchester in partnership with Manchester Science Festival, Manchester International Festival and Manchester City Council Libraries. Events included: supper clubs, arts workshops, forensic science workshops, music tasters, wellbeing activities and mini marketplaces. My role at Commonplace was varied and included: developing event proposals, sourcing funding/sponsorship, coordinating event logistics (insurances, budgeting, risk assessments), arranging staffing, volunteer management, delivering marketing, coordinating ticketing and catering. At Springs Tenant Management Co-operative I was the Community Development Worker, delivering projects for the charity arm of the organisation, New Springs Community Project Group. I split my time working autonomously designing and implementing programmes of activities, and working alongside a team of volunteers and trustees. My role was varied and high paced, from recruiting volunteers, to project management, partnership development and bid writing. I am now looking to apply my skills and knowledge in project management, events coordination and community outreach into a new challenge in The Netherlands.
