Luis Ramos

I am a reliable professional, results oriented, with a passion for nature, human rights, learning and honesty. I have over 25 years of experience in the coordination of environmental projects related to natural resources, biodiversity and climate change. My professional and academic experience has allowed me to achieve a solid understanding of the international environmental conventions (CBD, UNFCCC, CITES) and issues such as protected areas, conservation of biodiversity, climate change, ecosystem services, sustainable development, environmental/land use, wetlands, coastal marine management, ecotourism, reforestation, and deforestation among others. Likewise, I have administrative experience with the private sector and non-profit organizations. Currently, I work for the US agency for International Development (USAID) managing biodiversity and climate change regional activities in Central America. I am very confident communicating to groups with people from different academic and social backgrounds. I have experience in formal, non-formal and informal education. I have been a biology college professor in the United States for students of science and non-science disciplines. My professional and academic backgrounds have allowed me to work on environmental issues with different stakeholders including communities, non-governmental, political and academic organizations, both nationally and internationally. My Mexican and Central American backgrounds allow me to understand international similarities and idiosyncrasies. I can fluently converse and write in English and Spanish, and have basic knowledge of French and Portuguese.
