
Maarten is a results-driven public health management expert with a proven track record in building effective teams, improving operational efficiency, strategy co-creation, and the application of financial and other performance metrics for strategic decision-making. He provides strategic management and leadership at Evidence Action as Director East & Southern Africa region. In this role, Maarten oversees Evidence Action's Dispensers for Safe Water (DSW) program in Kenya, Uganda, and Malawi, providing operational and financial management support that enables the organization to reach 4.5 million people per year across the three countries. In 2022 Maarten also assumed operational leadership of the Deworm the World (DtW) program in the Africa Region. Before joining Evidence Action Maarten successfully steered both the Malawi and Papua New Guinea country programs for Marie Stopes International through periods of significant change and development, successfully managing grants and contracts through full project cycles. Maarten has 17 years of professional leadership experience in both the INGO and private sectors across a variety of settings in the Pacific and Africa. Maarten holds an MSc in Public Health from Maastricht University, specializing in Policy Economics and Management, as well as a BSc in Physiotherapy from Hogeschool van Utrecht.
