Mark Sorensen

I am the founder, President and CEO of the GPC Group, a full-service Geographic Information Systems and Information Systems (GIS/IS) consulting consortium focused on the planning, design, implementation and provision of operations support for “GeoSmart Solutions that Matter”. I have over 35 years of experience in the application of GIS and related technology to spatial data infrastructure (SDI), urban and regional planning and resource science, policy, and management, in the United States and abroad. Having served as the Advisor or Project Manager for over 230 GIS projects in 68 countries, I have directed GIS work covering a diverse range of topics and client types. Having been involved in nearly 30 SDI projects at national, regional, and international organization levels, I have been recognized as premier authority on the subject. Most recently, I have been working with other global partners towards the development of “Smart Development Infrastructure” (SDI+) to apply spatial data infrastructure (SDI) principles to the special needs of developing countries, “fragile states” and small island developing states (SIDS). I am a founding partner in the five sister companies of the GPC Group including, GPC Inc. based in California USA, GPC Global Information Systems llc (GPC-GIS) based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, Geospatial Consultancy Services llc (GCS) based in Kabul, Afghanistan, GPC East based in Hyderabad, India and GPC-ICT based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. I am also CEO of the Earth Council Alliance, a private non-profit organization based in Washington D.C.
