I am an American physician posted to Zambia since 2017 as Resident Advisor for the U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI). In this capacity I advise the Zambian ministry of health on malaria control policy and operations, and I jointly manage a $30-million-per-year portfolio of investments in malaria control interventions such as vector control, case management, surveillance and operations research. I have served for 15 years in senior clinical and public health roles with the US government in sub-Saharan Africa – over 9 years of which with CDC, the rest with USAID and the Peace Corps. I did my medical training at the University of Florida, where I later served as assistant professor of medicine and conducted research on malaria spatial epidemiology.
