I am sarayu agarwal, a service designer, who has lately been fascinated by application of user-centred design to socio-developmental challenges for innovation and impact. I believe in understanding a challenge holistically, solving problems using a multi-dimensional logic, considering business viability, and envisioning technology enabled impact.
Shuttling three jobs in three years has made my journey in design full of exploration, agility, learning, and growth. Having swiftly learnt the principles of interaction design in a mammoth corporate, I acknowledged that when used an afterthought in the business world, design can only help beautify a product’s aesthetics and never solve real user challenges. I then moved to a startup, hoping to design holistic user experiences and take ownership of the products I make. Three mobile apps and some hundred thousand downloads later, I realised that deploying design to create only tangible forms was limiting and for stimulating my creative faculty, I need to work in the realms of design thinking, especially concerning “wicked problems”.
In June ‘14 I graduated from the Indian institute of technology Guwahati, India with an interdisciplinary curriculum in human-computer interaction, system design, mathematics and economics. I have diverse work/internship/volunteering experiences, each reflecting a bit of who I am.
