Sebnem Sener

Sebnem Sener has 15 years of financial sector development, financial inclusion, development impact and strategy development experience in international organizations, including The World Bank and United Nations Development Program, and NGOs. She also is a PhD holder. Dr. Sener is currently working for UNDP's Finance Sector Hub. She is co-leading the SDG Impact project and responsible for leading the SDG Investor Platform and impact intelligence pillar. She is specifically focusing on the work that is identifying ESG/SDG contributions of the investable opportunities. Prior to this role she worked for Her Majesty Queen Máxima of the Netherlands in her capacity as the United Nations Secretary-General's Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development (UNSGSA) to support her role in advancing financial inclusion, with a focus on impact. Her work focused on the enabling role of digital financial inclusion to achieve the SDGs. Previously, she worked for Finance and Markets Group at the World Bank Group where, over the last three years, she worked in the Financial Inclusion Group and was responsible for providing technical, strategic and operational support/services in financial inclusion and advisory services with international experience in strategy and financial sector development. At the World Bank she also worked on a variety of financial sector development projects, assisted emerging economies and developing markets in preparing prioritized action plans addressing financial sector development and the sequencing of reforms, and advised clients, especially in low income countries, on the implementation of financial sector development programs. Before joining the World Bank, Dr Sener worked for an NGO and conducted several development projects, including an access-to-finance project in Turkey that aimed to empower women in the Eastern part of Turkey to access financial services through microcredit.
