Shabelle Relief and Development Initiatives (SHARDI) is a national nonprofit making and non-governmental organization dedicated saving lives and relieving suffering through humanitarian aid, relief and development programs in Somalia. SHARDI was founded in 2011 by a team of Somali intellectuals and humanitarians. The knowledge, skills, and experiences that the team gained from community development activities, impelled them to establish this organization for the aim of responding the worst drought/famine that killed 260 thousand people during 2011/2012 in Somalia alone. SHARDI is private, voluntary, nonpolitical, nonsectarian organization, it’s headquarter located in Mogadishu of Somalia. Shabelle Relief and Development Initiatives’ objective is to promote human dignity, equity, achieve peace, democracy and environmental sustainability in Somalia SHARDI provides humanitarian assistance, social services and takes part of development issues in Horn of Africa regions. SHARDI responds to humanitarian emergencies in the region and provide both relief and aid services to the East African communities. SHARDI also facilitates responding of emergency relief for natural and manmade disasters, improving sustainable food security that will create economic opportunities to the vulnerable and marginalized groups within the Somali communities, promoting peace building and developing Integrated Health services. SHARDI particularly targets the most vulnerable members of the society mainly women and children, it focuses on issues of WASH, Health, Livelihood, Education, Skill Development, as well as other human rights issues such as Protection, HIV/AIDs, Gender with special focus on women and youth empowerment through civic education, skill development, intensive employment and income generation activities (IGA).Therefore to achieve its indented interventions, SHARDI works directly with local communities at large to identify their needs and found appropriate solutions. In conclusion, SHARDI has extensive working experience, technical expertise, collaboration and credibility with beneficiary communities. It constantly promotes community participation in project planning, implementation, monitoring & evaluation in order to improve accountability, transparency and sustainability of its interventions.
