Simone Badal McCreath

Dr. Simone Badal McCreath PhD, MBA, MPhil, B.Sc.(Hons) is a Research Fellow at the Natural Products Institute and a part time lecturer at the University of Technology. She is an editorial board member of American International Journal of Biology and an advisory board member and reviewer of Open Access Biochemistry, London. Dr. Badal currently holds the Elsevier early career woman scientist in Chemical Sciences for the Latin America and Caribbean region, 2014. She also holds the Principal’s award for best research (2013-2014) from the University of West Indies Mona for research paper entitled “Antiproliferative activity and absolute configuration of zonaquinone acetate from the Jamaican alga Stypopodium zonlae.” Dr. Badal McCreath is a well published author with 18 publications in peer reviewed journals, 2 abstracts in refereed journals and seventeen 17 abstracts that were presented in poster format at scientific meetings and is an avid scientific orator having presented at over 20 scientific meetings/conferences. Her list of accolades includes; the Young Scientist/Technologist awardee at the 23rd Science and Technology Conference and Expo in 2010, the Inaugural Luther Speare Scholar from the University of the West Indies Mona in 2010 and many others. She currently holds a pending patent for work done from her PhD and another in the making. She continues to share her expertise by training and supervising students at the undergraduate and postgraduate level. Dr. Badal McCreath’s current work covers the screening of Jamaican natural and synthetic compounds for potential anti-cancer and chemopreventive properties. Results from her research has already attracted funding for a cell culture facility and hopes to attract future funding to create an anti-cancer research facility of excellence, the first in Jamaica and also the Caribbean.
