Summary

I have Masters degree in Agricultural Extension from Reading University, UK, in additional to my studies in plant science/agronomy and my diploma in general agriculture with distinction I have wealth of experience in government, National and International NGOs, Bilateral Organizations and the UN at senior technical and managerial positions including food and nutrition security, livelihood diversification, Natural resource management, Biodiversity conservation, disaster risk management and climate change adaptation. In the past decades, • Worked for Agri service Ethiopia as head of Agriculture section • Served SNV Ethiopia, Christian Aid as agricultural advisor, Rural Development Programme coordinator and as programme officer respectively • Served UNDP Ethiopia as programme manager for food security, agricultural growth and disaster risk reduction • Initiated the establishment and full operationalization of the Ethiopian Commodity Exchange, ( ECX) while serving UNDP as programme manager for food security and disaster risk reduction • Supported and managed the national Farmers’ festival that recognized production heroes, innovative farmers, service providers and organized 5 annual farmers festival celebration in Amhara, Oromia, Tigray, SNNPR and Dire Dawa • Played an active role in the revision of Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Policy revision and preparation of DRM Strategic Programme and Investment framework (SPIF) of Ethiopia participating in the working groups. • Coordinated MDG Environment Joint programme implemented jointly by FAO, UNEP and UNDP in collaboration with the Federal Environment Protection Authority and regional government Bureaus • Served as sub Regional Coordinator for Eastern Africa in the International Federation for Organic Agricultural Movement (IFOAM) for 2 years. • Co-coordinated the national Coalition for Food Security process, the launching event and its implementation within UNDP operational districts and at national level • Managed early recover and humanitarian response in Somali, Afar and Oromia Regions.While working for UNDP, I was also a member of African drought forum and Africa-Asia disaster risk reduction platform Throughout my career, I was engaged in community development, capacity building and technology transfer to improve the living standards of the needy community In addition to my formal qualification and educational achievements, I attended several overseas and domestic short term trainings on food and livelihoods security, Agri green management, environment diplomacy, environment and social impact assessment, cross cultural management and negotiation, Prince2 practitioner course and result based management.
