Yacouba Savadogo is a medical Doctor with a Public Health Specialization and specialist in malariology. He has 17 years of experience in Burkina Faso health projects and programs planning and implementation (6 years at district level, 6 years at regional level and 5 years at central level) Since February 2015, he has been serving as Program Manager of Burkina Faso National Malaria Control Program. In this position, he has built over the years an extensive experience in coordinating the planning, implementation and evaluation of malaria control and elimination interventions in line with WHO, RBM and generally accepted guidelines. Prior to this, Dr Savadogo has worked at the peripheric level (districts and regions) respectively in the capacity of District chief medical officer and regional director for health based in Bobo Dioulasso, Burkina Faso. These responsibilities at the peripheric, regional and central levels of the health system were instrumental to him in building a robust knowledge of the Burkina Faso Health system. In his current role as National Malaria Control Program Manager, Dr Savadogo has gain a thorough experience on challenges around the implementation of WHO Global Malaria Technical Strategy (GTS) and The Roll Back Malaria Action and investment to defeat Malaria (AIM). In addition to these technical knowledges he also built over the years a sound experience in interacting and working with key malaria technical and funding partners including the Global Fund to Fight Aids Tuberculosis and Malaria, The US President's Malaria Initiative (PMI), the Roll Back Malaria partnership and the World Health Organization (WHO) particularly on the recently launched High Burden High Impact approach to drastically reduce malaria morbidity and mortality in High Burden countries. As a consequence of his role as NMCP coordinator for Burkina Faso, he seats in the Sahel Malaria Elimination Initiative as vice chair of the Technical committee. He is also co-chair of the Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) Working Group. Dr Savadogo is married and has three children. He is French native speaker, fluent in English.
