Construction works will figure significantly in the European Commission's transport sector interventions in Burkina Faso.

Activities for this year will include completion of road works and construction of axle load control stations, an EC delegation official told Devex. The commission is also supporting improvements in national cartography and institutional strengthening of the transport sector.

These projects comprise the first phase of the program. The second phase is still being designed, the official said.

The EC has earmarked 140 million euros for transport infrastructure under the 2008-2013 national indicative program. Aside from this, the commission is also funding initiatives in water and sanitation, and the energy sector.
