Cote d’Ivoire’s constitutional council has verified the results of the presidential poll last week, allowing for a runoff between President Laurent Gbagbo and opposition leader Alassane Ouattara on Nov. 21. The United Nations need to certify the results. Ouattara had earlier demanded a recount, BCC reports.
Ouattara has strengthened his alliance with opposition leader Henri Konan Bedie, a move that could oust Gbagbo in the next round of elections, Reuters reports.
“(We) call on militants, supporters and all voters to come together around (Ouattara’s) candidacy,” Bedie said in a statement on Sunday (Nov. 7).
