CAREER OPPORTUNITY: Counterpart Communities Coordinator (Position is anticipated to be part-time with and estimated annual salary of $12,000)

PROGRAM: Aqaba Pilot Program (JUSTDEED/Aqaba)-Jordan-U.S. Teams for Development in Education

REPORTS TO: Directors of CHAP and Director of Programs of Counterpart

LOCATION: Chicago, Illinois

Counterpart International is an international, nonprofit organization that supports the development of civil society and the promotion of self-sufficiency in local communities. Counterpart provides targeted humanitarian and technical assistance to strengthen developing and transitional democracies. Founded in 1965 as a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization, Counterpart has developed and implemented comprehensive programs in more than 50 countries.

DESCRIPTION: The Chicago-based Counterpart Communities Coordinator will provide oversight over all community linkage and mobilization initiatives at the U.S. level under the Aqaba Pilot Program. He/she will manage the U.S. community involvement in program activities and will be responsible for ensuring that fundraising activities are properly planned and met. He/she will oversee Chicago-based program components in coordination with assigned Counterpart Headquarters staff.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: The specific duties of the Counterpart Communities Coordinator shall include:

Key roles: •     (a) raise funds to support education-related activities in Jordan; (b) facilitate educational exchange programs for Jordanians to the U.S. community through the provision of in-kind and cash support; (c) facilitate volunteers from the U.S. to fill technical gaps and provide opportunities for knowledge-transfer of best methods in education to counterparts in the Jordanian community; (d) mobilize the community in the U.S. to provide technical, economic, and other opportunities for students, teachers, and other education professionals in Jordan; and (d) support the school-to-school linkages in a variety of ways.

Additional duties: •     Facilitate the identification of needs and of appropriate responses to program requirements •     Assist in the timely update of the Counterpart Communities website •     Ensure that Chicago activities are synergistic with activities on the ground in Jordan. •     Coordinate with local Chicago organizations and manage interaction and cooperation among the Chicago community in its assistance efforts. •     Secure a warehouse in Chicago for donations to be stored until enough supplies are received to fill the capacity for one shipment. •     Assist in the establishment of a Community Partnership Grant Fund that will be maintained mainly through donations from communities in Chicago •     Seek out additional business development opportunities. •     Establish, maintain and develop relationships with colleagues, donors and consultants at large for program and business development and information dissemination. •      Provide guidance in design, implementation, evaluation, and overall management of project. •     Alert Counterpart Headquarters management of programmatic concerns, challenges and difficulties in a timely fashion. •     Backstop project •     Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE: •     Demonstrated fundraising experience (grassroots/small-grants management experience preferred) •     Familiarity with the Chicago educational system •     Demonstrated community mobilization and capacity building experience •     BA; Master’s Degree highly desirable. •     Minimum of three years of experience in related field (community mobilization, humanitarian assistance, and/or other development activities experience) •     Marketing and proposal development experience •     Refined oral and written skills •     Strong presentation skills. •     Excellent overall management and assessment skills; organized, effective time and resource manager. •     Experienced in budget management and oversight of large single project or multiple projects. •     Ability to direct staff, prioritize, handle multiple roles and responsibilities in a fluid and dynamic environment. •     Program design and project management experience. •     Collaborative, team-oriented individual. •     Fluency in Arabic preferred •     Proficiency in MS and financial management software applications, including Word, Excel, and Project. •     Flexible schedule and availability to travel are essential.
