Devex coverage of the fall development conference season and other reporting has shown us so far this year that the donor landscape continues to change.

New York development week, the World Bank Annual Meetings and several other high-profile development events are behind us now, but each provided us the opportunity to engage with decision-makers across the international development community. We delivered the interviews with global development leaders from around the world as well as the news and analysis that our readers deserve to know. You can expect more of the same as we approach European Development Days in Brussels this November — another landmark event on the development calendar.

Throughout our coverage, a significant theme has once again emerged: the importance of strong, effective leadership to drive successful reform.

To achieve value for money and better outcomes, international donors are refining their sector and geographic priorities, exploring new funding instruments and partnerships, and modernizing the way they procure goods and services. They are diversifying their partner bases and devising policies and measures to leverage technology and engage a more tech-savvy audience in developed and developing countries alike. At the same time, new donors continue to emerge with ambitions and budgets to rival traditional ones.

Donors and their implementing partners are also working to implement the smart policies and reforms to help seal the Millennium Development Goals and shape a global development agenda beyond 2015.

These are complex and evolving issues that affect the future of development organizations around the world.

Because development is first and foremost a people business, successful reform at this depth and scale requires leadership. It’s a word not frequently used in the international development community, but that doesn’t mean there’s a shortage of leaders. These are the individuals shaping and innovating the development business to make the world a better place — donor agency officials, executives from nongovernmental organizations and private sector implementers, chiefs of party and team leads, CSR and sustainability directors, as well as social entrepreneurs and impact investors; to name just a few.

As the ones on the ground and out in front, many of these leaders have stories to share and information they need to know to do their job as a leader even better.

Devex understands how critical strong leadership is to international development. Executive Membership is our premier membership for global development leaders. We realize the right information at the right time is key, so for topics as multifaceted as donor agency reform, Devex executive members get an early and clear reading of what’s really happening and analysis that will help them lead their organizations.

Our feature article, What to expect from Jim Kim’s “global practices” plan, is a sample of the news and strategic insights exclusive to our executive members that you’ll find in our redesigned Development Insider newsletter moving forward.

Join the Devex community and gain access to more in-depth analysis, breaking news and business advice — and a host of other services — on international development, humanitarian aid and global health.
